North Thompson Communities Foundation Voices

The North Thompson Communities Foundation 'Voices' column: working together for the good of the valley

The North Thompson Communities Foundation "Voices" is a new column that we hope will provide the valley with information about what we do, our upcoming events, grant applications, donations, and opportunities for volunteering with our dedicated team in the future.

The definition of "foundation" is "a basis on which something stands or is supported." The North Thompson Communities Foundation is just that: it stands for and supports the residents of the North Thompson Valley by improving the quality of life in our communities today and in the future.

A community foundation is a charitable organization that supports local communities by bringing together resources and donations from individuals, families and businesses to support non-profits and other organizations. They receive support and generous donations from the public and provide grants that contribute to community projects and organizations. They can also manage donor-advised funds, scholarship and bursary funds, and technical assistance programs for non-profits.

Community foundations are tax-exempt, non-profit organizations that are governed by local boards. They differ from private foundations in that they are supported by a wide range of public and private donors. They offer donors a variety of charitable giving options and philanthropic advice. Gifts can be made in cash, stock, or other assets, and often receive immediate tax benefits.

The North Thompson Communities Foundation supports the residents of the North Thompson Valley from McLure to Blue River and has been around since 2003. Over the years the foundation has supported many non-profits and organizations throughout the valley, and will continue to do so with generous support from the public. Together we are stronger!

Are you new to the valley? Do you have an interest in volunteering your time in a meaningful way? Would you like to be part of a team of individuals with a vision of connecting caring communities in the North Thompson?

Volunteering with our local Communities Foundation may be a great place for you to consider investing your time and skills. We are currently looking for new board and committee members with computer skills, accounting knowledge, social media skills or strong communication skills.
