A new beautification project is setting eyes on cleaning up the ‘rock pile’ triangle at the Fadear community park ball diamond.

The project is being led by the North Thompson Valley Garden Club with support from the District of Barriere. It was a suggested project brought forward in January.

The District has ensured that the area will be watered regularly through the summer.

Garden club members, along with other volunteers, gathered in March for a work bee to begin the clean up. That same month, the club carried a motion to put $1,000 in funds towards the project.

On April 24, the garden club was joined by a district backhoe operation at the the ‘rock pile’ triangle to help prep the ground for planting. Local resident Tracy Sealey also dropped by with hot coffee for the workers.

The North Thompson Valley Garden Club meets on the third Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. at the Barriere Senior’s Hall – new members are always welcome.

Other events in the works include a spring plant sale, field trips and workshops on topics such as food security and sustainability.
