PAC advises council of fundraiser to build outdoor classroom

Two presentations from local groups at the District of Barriere Council meeting

There were two presentations from local groups at the District of Barriere Council meeting on Monday, Apr. 18.

The first presentation was from Liz Gilbertson, inviting all of the council members to the Investors Group Walk For Alzheimer’s on May 1, at the Senior’s Hall in Barriere.

The second presentation was made by Lindsay Arcand and a member of the Barriere Elementary PAC, with two items for council to consider.

They explained that the PAC are preparing to fundraise for the building of a large gazebo that will go just north of the current blue playground equipment, on land that is currently under lease from the District of Barriere.

This gazebo will be used by the Elementary School as an outdoor classroom.

Their request to council was to confirm that this was acceptable, and also to request the waiving of the permit fees.

Council members approved the waiving of such fees, and approved the building of the gazebo - contingent on the School District agreeing, in writing, that they will be responsible for the insurance on the structure.

Their second item was regarding the Moonlight Madness Movie Night, which will be coming back to Barriere this summer.  It will take place on Aug. 23, at the main Ball Field.

The PAC members requested that the District waive the rental fees for the concession and the ball field.

Council members approved this request.  Lindsay also stated that this year, the proceeds of this event will be going to Barriere Elementary School.
