After handling the mail in this community for 30 years, the Barriere Post office has had a face lift.

This fall the building received a complete renovation, of the foyer, and the mail drop slot that was in the inside postal box area has been changed to an outside mail drop box.

Postmaster Jean St. Pierre commented on the renovations and changes, “The reason for this is that Canada Post standardised their facilities across Canada, and it became Barriere’s turn to get a new look after 30 years.”

She notes that during those years a new paint job inside was the only improvement that was done to the interior.

Asked what the reasoning was for moving the mail drop off site from the slot inside in the foyer, to the colourful box outside the front of the building, St. Pierre stated that the new mail drop off box is also part of the general standardization of Canada Post outlets, noting post offices throughout the country will be the same.

The postmaster also noted that the renovations were in place just in time for the mad rush of the Christmas season. The new changes made it much easier for post office staff to handle the large amounts of letters and packages handled during that time, and the bright fresh look is a pleasure for both customers and staff.
