Provincial Winter Fair Society say plans for 2016 event in Barriere coming along nicely

Provincial Winter Fair Society say they are committed to the mission of “Striving to be Fair Minded”

By Evelyn Pilatzke,

Provincial Winter Fair Society chairman

Once all the excited 4-H youth and open contributors arrive at Provincial Winter Fair they will find some new events in 2016. We are happy to announce that our horse division has added a 4-H and Youth Open Schooling Show for the 2016 fair. Some of the features of the show will include western and english dressage, two way combination classes and $200 cash added stake classes. There will be Super Horse and Hi Point Awards. Added new divisions will be Little Leagues for ages 6-8 and Open Beginner for 6-19.

The Sealin Creek Ranch Heifer Award, generously sponsored by Sealin Creek Ranch, is an award that has contributed greatly to growing our Beef Female show is up for the winning this year to a deserving 4-H member.

The popular Fred Nichol and Twemlow events are returning with the blessings of the families whose names they honour for the 4-H beef and sheep division. These are such fun events that the Boundary C 4-H Club from Rock Creek has created a new similar event for the other 4-H divisions (dog, horse, goat, photography, rabbit) to participate in. With this has come a new obstacle course that will incorporate different divisional skills that the 4-H youth will be required to perform.

Our goat division is growing in both 4-H and open entries and there will be market goat entries selling at the Live Auction on Monday, September 26, 2016.

For our Open Beef contributors we have changed to a jackpot format for the Market, Heifer and Cow/Calf classes. So the Champion and Reserve Champion will not only have the bragging rights but a bigger prize payout.

Look for 4-H youth from our district’s clubs manning a booth at the North Thompson Fall Fair on Labour Day weekend to inform you of what 4-H and Provincial Winter Fair is all about and to help advise how to purchase some of the best beef, lamb and goat from 4-H and open market projects for your freezer. Also the photography and clothing divisions will be selling their 4-H projects at the live auction on September 26, 2016.

The Provincial Winter Fair Society is truly committed to the mission of “Striving to be Fair Minded” and will be focusing on a successful fair for the benefit of our 4-H children and youth.

Entry deadline for the horse division is July 1, 2016. Stalling is limited so get your entries in ASAP.

Entry deadline for open beef, sheep, goat and rabbit is August 15, 2016.

Please email us at pwfsociety@xplornet.ca if you need entry forms or have any questions.
