For Kamloops-Thompson parents with children turning five before Dec. 31, 2021, it’s time to think about kindergarten registration.
This year, due to the ongoing pandemic, School District No. 73 is providing online information sessions for parents and are introducing an online registration process.
“Our registration process will look a bit different this year,” said Trish Smillie, Assistant Superintendent. “To make sure we maintain our pandemic safety protocols for schools, we have moved our information sessions and registration process online and expanded the registration period from one week to two.”
In-person registration may be required for some families, in which case parents can contact their schools directly to set up an appointment to complete in-person registration.
Registration for Schools of Choice, which includes French Immersion, Montessori, arts, and science and technology schools will be open from Jan. 25 until noon on Feb. 5, 2021.
Parents interested in Schools of Choice will also be asked to indicate if they have any preference for an alternative School of Choice. This is because registration is not on a first-come-first-served basis. If more students register for a School of Choice than seats available, a lottery process will be used to determine which students are registered.
An online information session about Schools of Choice will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 6:30 pm.
Online kindergarten registration for neighbourhood schools runs Feb. 15 – 26. In-person registration begins on Feb. 16. Parents are invited to learn more at the online Kindergarten Round-Up information session on Feb. 3, beginning at 6:30 pm. Registration for this session is required.
