Remembrance Day ceremonies in Barriere, Clearwater and Blue River
Please take some time out of your day to join with others from the area as we pay our respects to those who have served and are serving this Remembrance Day, Monday, Nov. 11, 2023.
If you are unable to attend a local event, we then ask that at 11 a.m. you remember by taking two minutes of silence and reflection for the brave men and women who have and continue to protect us all.
Ceremonies within the area include the following:
• Nov. 10 - The students from Barriere Elementary will be making a short trip over to the Secondary School where they will join the older students at 10:15 a.m. for Remembrance Day Ceremonies in the gymnasium with Legion members in attendance.
• Nov. 11 - Simpcw First Nation and area residents will be gathering at the Cenotaph in Chu Chua with the Remembrance Day Ceremony beginning at 10:30 a.m.
• Nov. 11 - The Barriere Legion’s Remembrance Day Parade – All are welcome to participate. All of those who would like to gather for marching of the flags please meet in front of the Legion at 10:30 a.m. The Remembrance Day ceremonies will start at 11 a.m. with two minutes of silence followed by Reveille inside the Legion. Doors open at 10:30 a.m. Luncheon will follow the ceremonies with everyone welcome.
• Nov. 11 - In Clearwater, the parade marches into position at 10:45 a.m., at the memorial Cenotaph with the march off at 10:55 a.m. The service at Reg Small Park will begin at 10:57 a.m. with “O Canada”, 10:59 a.m. is the “Last Post” and 11 a.m. ‘moment of silence’ followed by the Remembrance Day ceremony. Note: If you have any wreaths to lay, please pick up no later than 10:30 a.m.
A Spaghetti Luncheon will follow at the Clearwater Legion Hall and all are welcome.
Vavenby and District Legion Branch 259 will participate in Remembrance Day ceremonies at Raft River Elementary and Clearwater Secondary school on Friday, Nov. 10.
• Nov. 11 - In Blue River, participants will meet at the Legion Branch 213 hall at 10:45 a.m. There will be no parade. Students from the school will make presentations, as will other members of the community. Luncheon to follow.
