Barriere’s official Christmas Tree Light Up at Fadear Park took place on Saturday, Dec. 11, with a number of families turning out for this annual event to kick off the holiday season in the community.

The Barriere Lions Club captained the event this year, and they made sure a surprise visit with Santa Claus was on the agenda for the kids.

Strategic bonfires placed around the park kept the chill off, with hot dogs and drinks by donation provided by the Lions, who noted the proceeds will be donated to the Barriere Elementary PAC.

The grade 6 class from the elementary school were onsite as well, hosting a bake sale to raise funds for their year-end trip.

The Christmas Tree light up took place under the eye of the Barriere Fire Department, whose members also kept an eye on the bonfires with a fire engine onsite “just in case”.
