Suzanne Fossheim comes with a wealth of sewing experience to open up one of Barriere’s newest businesses

A new seamstress is in town – and looking for things to sew for Valley residents.

Suzanne Fossheim moved to Barriere in August of 2009 after spending many years in Cold Lake, Alberta, where she worked both as a seamstress, and as a children’s sewing instructor for over seven years.

Suzanne has earned several sewing diplomas over the years, including one proclaiming her a Kids Can Sew and Fashion Design Instructor.

“I’ve being sewing since I was nine,” Suzanne explained, “I would wait until my mom left for work or shopping, and would sew on her antique peddle machine while she was out.”

The seamstress tells that once older, she began making her mom’s clothes, and later her own children’s clothing.

Speaking about her sewing business and making clothing She says, “I’m not proud. I will quite happily do mending and alterations, too.”

Just before this interview Suzanne had just finished making up a number of ‘scrubbies’ for a veterinarian business in Alberta, and will be shipping them off later in the week.

She says, “I love working with material, and prewash everything before I sew, that way I know nothing will shrink.”

A District of Barriere business license hangs in her workroom, and Suzanne say she is ready to tackle any sewing project.
