Seniors, beware this new telephone scam

Seniors, here is a new twist on the telephone “grandson scam”.

RCMP are warning members of the public of a possible scam that involves senior citizens. The caller is targeting elderly people by phoning them pretending to be a member of the RCMP.  The caller then states he has arrested your grandchild or nephew/niece, and they are in need of bail money to get out of jail.  He then gives you instructions on how to wire the money to Quebec through Western Union.

Police are advising the public that the RCMP never contact individuals asking them to wire money through services such as Western Union for the purposes of posting bail.

This is a scam and you are advised to hang up and email Phonebusters wafl@phonebusters.com or your call your local police department.
