The District of Barriere advise they will be upgrading or installing new street lighting in many areas of town by the end of this month.

“BC Hydro will be here for a week and they are going to replace the current high pressure sodium lights throughout the town to new LED lighting which are more efficient and have a better life span,” reports municipal CAO Bob Payette, “This will provide brighter lighting, be more attractive, and some areas will be getting light poles for the first time. There is no cost to the district for the upgrades.”

Payette also noted there is a new sign board on Barriere Town Road just north of the firehall that the district recently put in as a public information and education notice board that will be kept updated on a regular basis “to keep people in the know”.

“Notices such as, check out the district’s new website, or the town is still on Stage 2 water restrictions,” said Payette, “Or, as the weather gets warmer, please do not over use the water system as we are between wells.”
