The Barriere Community Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, September 17th at the Barriere Band-shell. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the Run starts at 11 a.m.

“The T-shirt sales are in support of cancer research. We will be selling them at AG Foods leading up to the run. This year the shirts are designed from letters and messages sent to Terry personally while battling cancer, having had to end his run. With so many loving, kind messages sent to encourage and support him, these shirts honour his courageous battle with cancer,” said Kathy Cooper, organizer of the Terry Fox Run in Barriere.

In 2022 Barriere contributed $4.80 per capita donating a total of $8,563 and the target goal this year is to raise $5 per Barriere resident.

“We’ve raised over $200,000 since starting the Terry Fox Run fund raising here in Barriere, with so much support from businesses and individuals. Our hope is to surpass last years total while bringing further awareness to Cancer Research,” Cooper says.

Many cancer survivors will participate in the run and will be wearing red t-shirts to show that they too are survivors.

Local teams often coordinate to do their own fund raising for the run, forming their own groups to participate which Cooper says are “so inspiring” as she looks forward to this year’s event.
