A very young Nicky Grummett was well known in Barriere for a kind heart and determination to fill his little red wagon with cans and bottles so he could sell them and donate the funds to the local food bank. When Nicky unexpectedly passed in 2005 the Nicky’s Red Wagon program was carried on in his memory and has become an annual fundraiser for the local food bank at Christmas time.

As 2020 has been an especially hard year for many families in the area it was hoped that Nicky’s Red Wagon could assist the local food bank in being able to meet the need for this Christmas season. A great assist in doing this was thanks to Barriere AG Foods, who created individually wrapped food hamper packages available for customers to purchase at $5 each, then the hampers were dropped off to Nicky’s Red Wagon.

Not only was the need met, but the red wagon was filled to overflowing many times over. The final count was 330 AG food hampers donated by shoppers at the Barriere store.

“Together we all made this year such a success,” said Interior Savings Insurance agent Laura Stephens, “We could not have done it without them. Thank you also to Nicky Grummett’s family for allowing us to keep going with Nicky’s Red Wagon – it’s such a beautiful thing, and means a lot to so many. Thank you also to all at the Barriere Food Bank for making Christmas a little brighter during such ‘unique’ times.”
