North Thompson Communities Foundation celebrates 20 years

Foundation awards significant cheques to Simpcw First Nations and Evergreen Acres

The North Thompson Communities Foundation was out and about in the valley over the weekend celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the foundation.

On Saturday, August 19 in Barriere the North Thompson Communities Foundation awarded a substantial cheque to Simpcw First Nation in the amount of $98,995.00 which will go towards an administration accounting system upgrade.

In Clearwater on Sunday August 20, the NTCF awarded a significant cheque in the amount of $71,278.00 designated for ‘old hall renovations and new hall amenities at Evergreen Acres Seniors Housing.

The North Thompson Communities Foundation awards grants through local charitable organizations generated from responsibly managed donations and legacies which promote community capacity building and unity throughout the North Thompson Valley.

The celebrations were held in Barriere at Fadear Park on Saturday August 19 and Sunday in Clearwater at the Elks Hall. A BBQ Luncheon was provided by the NTCF and caked served as folks gathered to visit, learn more from the NTCF members about what the organization does throughout the North Thompson, how to apply for grant funding and more about the contributions made throughout the year.

Barriere’s 20th NTCF celebrations on Saturday the at Fadear Park included guest speakers: MLA Peter Milobar, acting Mayor, Councillor Donna Kibble, TNRD Area “O” Rep Jill Hayward, Directors Antoon Houben, Alex Peterson, and Kathy Dunn. NTCF President, Louise Lodge made the cheque presentation to Simpcw First Nation Chief, George Lampreau, Band Administrator, Rhonda Kershaw, and Andre Taniguti, Director of Finance and Operations for the band. Special drumming and prayer by Simpcw First Nation Shelly Loring and Mary Mackenzie. Music performed by Vital Crown.

The celebrations continued in Clearwater on Sunday at the Elk’s Hall with music provided by Calliope as people learned more about the foundation and enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and cake.

The NTCF President, Louise Lodge was flanked by Directors, Sandy Wetterstrom , Cheryl Thomas, Dustin Deuling, Stephanie Sollows.

Funds raised by the foundation assist charitable organizations that improve health, contribute to culture, enhance community services and support families… all right here in the North Thompson.
