Thieves make off with Fadear Park memorial bench brass plaques

District of Barriere will be replacing the plaques that were stolen

Tasha Buchanan, Deputy Corporate Officer for the District of Barriere reports that all of the brass plaques on the memorial benches and trail heads in Fadear Park have been stolen.

The missing plaques were noticed on Feb. 2, but the exact date of the theft is unknown at this time.

Buchanan says, “All of the other plaques in the park are okay, and RCMP Cst. McGregor is working on the case”

She notes the pour cast brass plaques were purchased for $220 each, then glued and bolted onto the benches.

Buchanan commented the theft was not one of opportunity, but a theft that was planned.

“Someone had to have brought the tools and taken the time to remove all of those plaques,” said Buchanan, “It would have taken some time to do.

“Council will be talking about this and how we are going to replace the plaques.

“If anyone would like to find out about their memorial plaque or bench I encourage them to contact myself at the District office.”

If anyone has information about the thefts they are encouraged to contact the local RCMP or call Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-222-8477.
