Who doesn’t love a parade!

The North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo features two parades each year.  The big Fall Fair parade on Saturday, Sept. 3, with entries open to anyone and everyone, businesses, individuals, etc., and the Fall Fair Family Parade held on Monday, Sept. 5.

This year the Family Parade is offering plenty of great reasons to attend.  They also offer prize money, with a special $200 prize  for Best Family Group; a good reason to dress up grandpa, the dog, and all the family – you could win the top prize.

There will also be five Special Ribbons awarded with a $25 prize as well.

The Family Parade is a walking costume parade, but they do welcome floats, motorized units, horses, bikes and scooters.   There are 12 divisions in all offered and you can find a list of those divisions on page 62 of the entry catalogue (pick one up at the Fall Fair entry office in the old Sweetnams Store, or at businesses around town) or go online to www.fallfair-rodeo.com.

The parade encourages all ages to come and join in on the fun; and make note that Monday is also Family Day at the Fall Fair with special rates and attractions for the whole family.

Time to get those costumes ready so you can meet up with everyone at the Barriere High School where the Family Parade will begin to assemble Sept. 5, at 9:30 am. Judging will begin at 10 a.m., and the procession will leave around 10:30 a.m. and proceed up Barriere Lakes Road and into the fairgrounds where it will come to an end at the Interior Savings Entertainment Stage where prizes will be awarded.

The Family Parade is sponsored by the Thompson Valley Players, and the judging will be officiated by North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association Ambassador Candidates.

The Big Saturday Fall Fair Parade offers ribbons in numerous divisions such as Best Float, Decorated Cars, Antique Cars, Best Costume - Walking, Best Horse and Rider, Best Horse Under Harness, and some divisions also offer commercial, club and group divisions as well.   Find all the divisions offered on page 63 of the entry catalogue.  Best Overall Float Prizes sponsored by Gilbert Smith Forest Products pays $400 for first place, $250 for second place and $150 for third.  Parade participants gather on Airfield Road  (by Barriere Elementary) at 9:30 a.m. for judging, with the parade moving out at 11 a.m.
