Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Transfer Stations and Landfills will be accepting bare natural Christmas trees until Jan. 31, 2012.
The TNRD will also be accepting strings of Christmas tree lights during this time as well, which will be recycled.
Temporary signage of this seasonal initiative will be posted at all TNRD Transfer Stations and Landfills.
“We know that along with the holiday season comes an increase in garbage,” said Martin Dickson, TNRD Environmental Health Services technologist. “Not only do we want residents to try to recycle as much of their holiday waste as possible, but we want to offer them clear routes to dispose of such things as trees and lights, which can become outdated and unwanted quickly.”
The TNRD will also be releasing two seasonal information pieces including the Holiday Green Guide and an accompanying poster.
The posters will be placed on community bulletin boards around the region, and the Green Guide is available online at tnrd.ca/holidaygreenguide.
The Holiday Green Guide will also be distributed to area member municipalities and community associations.
For any questions about properly disposing of Christmas related waste, call the TNRD at 250-377-8673.
