District of Barriere mayor and council have given the go ahead with some much needed paving upgrades to both Yard Road and Conner Road within the community.

As per council’s request a report was presented at an April council meeting after staff had obtained detailed cost estimates for the rehabilitation of sections of both roads. Upgrading of the 254-m long section of pavement on Yard Road between Station Road and the Petro Canada Station will consist of pulverizing the existing asphalt surface, grading the existing base, and placing a 75-mm thick x 9-m wide hot mix asphalt layer. The cost for this upgrade was quoted at $140,000. To upgrade the west shoulder, which receives most of the parking along this section of road, the repair will include using a 75-mm thick x 2-m wide recycled asphalt surface for a cost of $18,000.

In regards to the upgrade for Connor Road, the southern portion of the road; between Kamloops Avenue and Lilley Road needs pavement upgrades with the cost to pulverize the existing 135-m long x 8-m wide asphalt surface, grade the existing base, and place a 75-mm thick x 9-m wide hot mix asphalt layer quoted at $65,000.
