Barriere Fire Rescue’s Mar.18 practice included an impressive demonstration on fire behavior using a little burn house to show the way fire spreads and acts.
“By opening different doors in the house we can make the fire go where we want it to go,” said Deputy Fire Chief Derek Ives who was instructing the course.
The demo also showed the different stages of a fire. Ives commented on the attached photo showing flames coming out of the roof, saying, “This was caused by me lighting the smoke on fire with a lighter.”
Fire Rescue remind area residents that with the snow gone, the grass and brush under it dries out quickly and can catch fire very easily until the rain comes. Please keep a hose handy when burning and be fire smart.
The department welcomes new recruits who can find out more by attending Thursday night practices at the fire hall at 7 p.m.
