WATCH: Visitors flock to Barkerville for Christmas event

Check out our video of all the fun at the historic site east of Quesnel

Barkerville’s Old Fashioned Victorian Christmas event is in full swing this weekend, with locals and tourists alike attending the event at the historic site east of Quesnel and Wells.

Hundreds of visitors lined up with Good Cheer or cash donations Saturday (Dec. 8), the first day of the three-day event, to enter the site’s doors, and traditional activities including sleigh rides and cookie decorating were on offer, as well as choir performances and a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Many families got dressed up in Victorian garb for a traditional photo with none other than Father Christmas himself.

The lines for Goldfield Bakery’s sourdough bread were out the door, and visitors were enjoying the picturesque snowy setting.

To the excitement of many, Barkerville’s tube run was also open, allowing thrill seekers a swift ride down a rather slippery slope.

Watch our video of some of the festivities. The site will be open Dec. 9 and 10, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit Barkerville.ca for more information.
