The District of Wells has rescinded its evacuation order. Residents of Wells can return home. An evacuation alert is still in place and residents should be prepared to evacuate again.
"We've been advised by the wildfire branch for the District of Wells that they feel they have everything under control that they need to and we can go home," said Ed Coleman, mayor of Wells. Coleman said people of Wells will be relieved to be able to go home.
When asked how he was feeling, Coleman said "tired."
Residents of Wells should still be prepared to evacuate in case circumstances around the fire change.
Coleman said he wanted to thank all of the different groups who worked together to manage the situation including Barkerville Historic Town and Park, the Cariboo Regional District, Lhtako Dene Nation and all of the volunteers who helped make the process easier for residents of Wells.
The Cariboo Regional District has not yet lifted its evacuation orders which include Bowron Lake and Barkerville.
"In our case, we've assessed and we are being advised by my staff that they're comfortable that I can take down the evacuation."
Coleman has been working out of the emergency services support centre since the evacuation order was put in place along with a team of dedicated people working to ensure residents are informed and supported.
The Antler Creek fire is still considered by the BC Wildfire Service to be out of control.
