UPDATE: Highway 97 has been fully reopened after a vehicle fire forced its closure for several hours on Thursday, Aug. 8.
The fire involved several bales of hay and took 100 Mile Fire Rescue and the 108 Mile Volunteer Fire Department about two hours to extinguish fully. Vehicles were backed up on either side of the blockage.
At this time it is unknown how the fire started.
ORIGINAL STORY: Highway 97 has been closed in both directions Thursday afternoon near 105 Mile House due to a vehicle fire.
The fire was first reported just after 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8. Members of 100 Mile Fire Rescue and the 108 Mile Volunteer Fire Department are currently responding to the vehicle fire located between Back Valley Road and 106 Mile Pit Access Road. Photos from the scene show the fire involved a trailer hauling hay.
At this time no detours are available around the scene of the incident. The highway was closed around 1:45 p.m.
There is no word on when the highway will be reopened.
