Fairgrounds caring for 100’s of animals

When the wildfire situation in the North Thompson and the Cariboo caused the evacuation of 100’s of animals to the fairgrounds in Barriere the job of transporting and caring for them all became monumental. However, thanks to an amazing community spirit and the generosity of dozens of caring businesses and people, all of the animals are comfortable, well fed, and looked after by people who are dedicated to the mental and physical welfare of each and every animal while they are at the facility.

Since Friday, July 7, there have been chores to do each day that involve twice daily feedings, constant filling and cleaning of water buckets and troughs, daily stall cleaning, exercising, medical care, bucket sanitation, manure to remove, hay to unload, security on site, a 24 hour reception booth, and much more.

“We are so very proud of our team here at the fairgrounds,” said a North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association representative, “Our peak for individual livestock was last weekend with 378 animals on site and under our care. Thanks to the amazing volunteers who continue to show up daily every animal is receiving individual attention and good maintenance. We will be here for them until they can return home.”
