To the editor,
On Monday, Nov. 15, Vickie and I, plus two of our friends Les and Betty Anne, were celebrating my 81st birthday at the Wells Gray Inn. In the booth next to us was a young fella, a pipeline worker, who was having his supper. He obviously overheard our birthday talk and on completing his meal he turned to me and wished me a happy birthday and left the restaurant.
Later as we finished our meal and asked for our bill, the waitress informed us that the aforementioned young man had paid for almost all of our meals. I was blown away. I met him just outside the hotel and asked him if we knew each other because at my age I am never quite sure. He said, no, but he just liked doing nice things for people.
Wow! I thanked him profusely.
I have long believed in acts of random kindness inherited from my father. This time I most certainly was the recipient of this kindness and am encouraged to pay it forward. It restores my faith in the fundamental goodness of people.
