Everyone is for free speech. Stalin and Hitler were all for free speech, as long as you told them what they wanted to hear.
Now let’s invert this a bit.
We are all guilty of wanting to hear what we want to believe. I’m no exception, but in my own defense, I do try to balance things out. Sometimes I succeed, other times maybe not.
I remember years ago being completely snowed under by Alex Jones — Alex Jones, for Heaven’s sake!
He was going on about those evil, secretive Bilderbergs and of course Hillary Clinton and George Soros were all mixed up in it.
As far as one can see, the Bilderbergs are not a secretive organization. They are just a bunch of ultra-rich who want the world to conform to their interests. Could that be evil? Probably not, more like overbearing. It’s up tot he ordinary citizen to pay attention to what the Bilderbergs are up to. Keep an eye on things, one might say.
Since that time long ago, Alex Jones has shown to be unstable, denying events like the Sandy Hook shooting, but he still has a huge following. Just tell me what I want to hear.
Nowadays, one can get whatever version of the truth that one wants. You want to believe that Donald Trump is a man of God? That he is the best president the United States ever had and if a lot of cheating and ballot-stuffing hadn’t occurred, Trump would still be leading the U.S. to its glorious destiny?
You could also be told that Joe Biden was responsible for Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine.
Thanks to the Internet, the “truth” can be customized to suit anyone’s ideology and beliefs.
Here in Canada and in B.C. you can find out that Justin Trudeau and John Horgan are responsible for all our ills, including crabs, lice and the seven year itch!
You can learn that Trudeau is the son of Fidel Castro and “Hulk” Horgan is going to steal all your money and give it to the shiftless layabouts. Oh woe is us! As I’ve said, the facts can be whatever you want them to be. Just hope that cold reality doesn’t intrude.
