There are 12.7 million volunteers in Canada.

During National Volunteer Week (NVW), Volunteer Canada and Investors Group encourage Canadians to celebrate and recognize the positive impact that volunteers have across our great country. Volunteers are the roots of vibrant communities. Their actions plant seeds that improve quality of life for all Canadians.

Just like roots are essential for trees to bloom, volunteers are essential for communities to boom. Thanks to volunteers, our communities grow strong and resilient. Even the tiniest volunteer effort leaves a profound and lasting trace in a community, much like tree rings that appear over time.

“National Volunteer Week is a special time to celebrate the collective efforts of all volunteers,” says Paula Speevak, President and CEO of Volunteer Canada. “Volunteers nourish our lives with their energy, skills and talents. Volunteering establishes roots in communities. National Volunteer Week is a time to express gratitude for what volunteers and volunteering does for all of us.”

This year, the 2016 campaign theme, volunteers are the roots of strong communities, comes to life with NVW-branded recognition items made from all natural seed paper that can be planted. Recipients can plant their recognition item, allowing it to sprout roots that shape new paths and keep growing, much like the incredible efforts of volunteers. Canadians are also urged to thank a volunteer on Twitter with the hashtag #NVW2016.

Thank you Tweets with the #NVW2016 hashtag will be featured on volunteer.ca through a live feed.
