This year has been really strange for everyone, including the Barriere and Area Alzheimer’s Walk. The walk itself was cancelled, and then done virtually. By the time we got word that the walk would be cancelled, we had already collected a number of raffle, silent auction and door prizes.

Initially, we were told by Alzheimer’s BC to hold on to everything and if things calmed down we might be able to do something with them. Finally, we were told that yes, provided we adhered to the Covid protocols, we could hold our raffle and silent auction.

On Sept. 27, we did just that, and had a great turnout. Thank you to everyone who came out and bid on the many silent auction items.

Our raffle was a huge success. The winners are as follows:

1st prize – Dining in the NT Valley – Carol Austin, Barriere

2nd prize – Blower/Vaccuum and Snow Shovel – Claire Tibbs, Clearwater (pipeline worker)

3rd prize – T-Fal Actifry – Guy and Andrea Copley, Barriere

4th prize – Rainer Meats Gift Certificate (donated by D&V Stamer) – Bryan Darcey, Kamloops

5th prize – Wooden Bench – Teresa MacDonald, Barriere

6th prize – Rona and Shell Gift Cards – Jill Hayward, Louis Creek

Thank you to all the businesses and individuals who donated these great prizes.

Between the raffle, the silent auction, the virtual walk that was held at the end of May, and many donations, we raised over $15,000 so far this year; Alzheimer’s BC are accepting donations until the end of December which would be included in our final total. This brings our running total, from 2008 to 2020, to over $100,000.

Thank you to all the residents and businesses of Barriere, Clearwater, Little Fort and Kamloops for their generosity over all these years. This Valley is the greatest place in B.C. Thanks so much for supporting such a great cause, it is greatly appreciated.
