The BC Conservative Party has announced a candidate for the Kamloops-North Thompson.

Dennis Giesbrecht gave an announcement speech in Kamloops in the Trans Mountain Pipeline laydown yard Friday morning. A total of four candidates were announced by the BC Conservative Party as the deadline for approved candidates was at 1:00 p.m.

From nearby Logan Lake, Giesbrecht said resource workers are the backbone of not only the riding, but the province as a whole.

“(They) are desperately needed to succeed as we work our way out of the pandemic, so are the jobs and industries that are needed to employ them,” he said.

Giesbrecht’s background is primarily in trades, and he was a driving force in a group that created a needle buy-back program in Kamloops. The program has since seen tens of thousands of discarded needles removed from parks, the river banks of the South and North Thompson, city streets and alleyways and residential areas.

Going into the election, he believes people are looking for a change and want to have the option of choosing someone who represents their views.

“I’m a guy that came from a small resource town, I worked in the oil and gas industry and I volunteer in my communtiy because that’s a value I have carried with me all my life,” said Giesbrecht.

“I believe that makes me someone the people of Kamloops-North Thompson will be able to relate to and I look forward to representing them in Victoria once votes are counted on election day.”
