Darfield / McLure evacuation alert downgraded to all clear

Residents asked to remain aware of the wildfire situation

The evacuation alert in Electoral Area “O” (Lower North Thompson) and Electoral Area “P” (Rivers and Peaks), for 231 properties from Darfield to McLure in the North Thompson, was rescinded to an all clear by the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) at 5:53 p.m., Aug. 20, 2021, as the threat of Sparks Lake wildfire in the area no longer poses an imminent risk to the safety of residents.

This alert was put in place at 10 a.m. on Aug. 16, 2021, at the same time as an alert was issued for the District of Barriere. Barriere’s alert was rescinded on Friday, Aug. 20, at 8 a.m.

“The weather has been more cooperative over the last few days with cooler temperatures and some precipitation is expected this weekend so our situation has improved,” said Barriere’s Mayor Ward Stamer, “We will continue to monitor the fire’s behavior with daily discussions with BC Wildfire Service and the TNRD.

Residents from Darfield to McLure, including the District of Barriere, are asked to remain aware of the situation, and should conditions change, an evacuation alert and / or evacuation order could be reinstated as necessary.
