District of Barriere CAO Colleen Hannigan reported to council at the regular Council Meeting of Jan. 6.

Highlights from that report include the following:

Barriere Water Distribution System Results: Interior Health provided the District with the opportunity to do a free detailed analysis of water at two separate points in the town’s distribution system just before Christmas, the Esso at the south end and the Ridge at the north end. Hannigan reported “the results confirm excellent water quality throughout our system”. The results can be accessed on the front page of the District’s website at www.barriere.ca.

Family Day: The North Thompson Activity Centre Society (NTACS) would still like to put on Family Day on Sunday, Feb. 16, as it has been an extremely popular event for the youth of the community. School District 73 has been asked if they would consider waiving the gym rental fees for this event but if that is not an option, council was asked if they would consider sponsoring the cost of this gym rental and associated custodial fees to a maximum of $200, which they approved.

HYLouie Update: Councillor Kerslake and the CAO met with Damon Marken who prepared the draft drawing for the renovations at HYLouie to discuss the decisions of council around finishes and the enlargement of the entrance way portico to accommodate a more heat efficient entrance way. Councillor Kerslake will continue to work with Mr. Marken towards next steps around acquiring costing for HVAC and plumbing as well as the overall building renos and report back to Council moving forward.

Lions Community Hall Lease: The District will be sitting down with the Lion’s Club this month to draft a renewal of their lease agreement for the Community (Lions) Hall on Borthwick which is owned by the District of Barriere. This draft will come back to Council for discussion and final approval at a future meeting.
