Lewis Bloomfield may be finding it hard to absorb that on Tuesday, Oct. 25, he celebrated his 100th birthday, but celebrate it he did, complete with birthday cake and family members gathered to wish him a “happy birthday”.

He also traveled to Barriere with family to receive a congratulatory certificate from District of Barriere Mayor Ward Stamer on Bloomfield becoming a centenarian.

Born in McCurry, Manitoba, Bloomfield made the move across Saskatchewan as a very young child when the family packed up in the Dirty 30’s and went to live in La- Combe, Alberta.

Along the trails of his life British Columbia became Bloomfield’s home base with wife Blanche and a family of five. The farm on East Barriere Lake is where they raised their family, and of course the children grew up, and grand memories were made.

Bloomfield was a man of many trades, working in logging (Cat work and road building), farming, and even mining. In his retirement years he has enjoyed gardening, and also entered his potatoes, tomatoes and carrots into the North Thompson Fall Fair which always brought a big smile to his face.

In later years the Bloomfield family increased to four daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, then great, and even great great grandchildren. Both he and Blanche were also able to mark their 70th wedding anniversary.

Lewis Bloomfield now lives with his son Gary and wife Diane in Kamloops.

“Lewis is such a gentleman,” said Diane Bloomfield, “He’s good natured, likes to watch Dr. Pol and the western shows, and he greatly enjoys visits from his families and friends.

“There are plenty of good memories for the Bloomfield families to share and cherish together.”
