The Lower North Thompson Comunity Forest Society has announced their Community Grants awards for 2017. The LNTCFS received 26 applications for funding requesting a combined total of $191,584. After much deliberation the decision was made to provided funding to 18 organizations for a total of $79,994.
Here is the list of recipients:
• Chu Chua Volunteer Fire Department, $5,000 to purchase additional equipment.
• Barriere Food Bank,
$2,100, 50% of the purchase of an insulated trailer for storage (TNRD paying other 50%).
• Simpcw Youth Program, $2500.
• Barriere Secondary PAC, $5000.
• Barriere & District Seniors Society, $2000
repairs to the front entrance, addition of a second handicap exit, and an LED sign.
• Barriere Youth Soccer, $3,840, equipment purchases.
• Barriere & District Heritage Society Barriere & District Heritage Society, $2000 towards painting exterior of secondary building and interior of main building on Museum site, and modular display containers.
• Yellowhead Pioneer Residence Society, $10,000, renovation updates to two bathrooms.
• Barriere Outdoor Club, $2,000, signage, replacing old ski equipment, and support for school ski programs.
• McLure Community Volunteer Firefighters & Recreation Society, $5000, three sets of firefighting gear.
• BC AG Expo Society, $5000, support of the 2018 BC Agricultural Exposition.
• Barriere Elementary, $2,800, the purchase of snowshoes, additional hand tools, gutters and rain barrels for outdoor classroom, and a steel bin storage container.
• Barriere Skatepark Supporters Group, $4,625, matching funding towards costs of final skatepark design and construction drawings.
• Anti-Violence Advocates Society, $2,000,
for “Respectful Relationships” program.
• Barriere Recreation Society, $4000, food safe certificates to support concession, batteries for floor washer, and 40’ storage container with shelving.
• NT Fall Fair & Rodeo Association, $5,000, painting and repairs to grandstands around rodeo arena.
• NT Volunteer & Information Centre, $3,729, exercise mats, yoga mats, karaoke machine, microphone, wagon, office blinds, and website restructuring.
• Pommy & Pals Dog Rescue Society, $2,000, two kennels, support for vet accounts, training a feral dog.
