The Military Police National Motorcycle Relay (MPNMR) are coming to Barriere.

The Barriere Legion Branch #242 are excited to be able to extend this invitation to the community to join in welcoming the Military Police National Motorcycle Relay (MPNMR) to town when they stop at the Legion on Tuesday, July 19, at approximately 2:30 p.m.

This MPNMR annually travels across Canada raising money for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children (MPFBC). The ride is now in it’s 14th year and has raised over $800,000 for the MPFBC. It is dubbed the ‘World’s Longest Annual Motorcycle Relay Ride’ with each province completing their own loop.

The MPFBC has contributed tens of millions of dollars in support to blind children through the years, providing for medical needs, equipment, training, guide dogs and recreational activities.

The fund supports eight schools for blind children. To this day, the MPFBC is run and managed by Military Police volunteers, which enables it to use 100 per cent of the money raised to help visually impaired children across Canada from newborns to 21-year-olds.

There is no requirement for the youth to be affiliated with the Canadian Armed Forces.

When the MPNMR departs from Victoria, B.C., Coast to Coast Riders will dip their tires in the Pacific, the brave then going on to continue the adventure all the way to St. John’s, Newfoundland, to dip their tires in the Atlantic.

Everyone is invited to the Barriere Legion at 4673 Shaver Road on July 19 to welcome the MPNMR, and feel free to speak with the riders to learn more about the MPNMR program.
