The Mitchell Cattle Co. is in the heart of the North Thompson Valley, and can be found alongside the Yellowhead Highway just two kilometres north of the District of Barriere.

Every year the Mitchell family sell 80 range-raised ranch bulls in their own annual Best Bet Bull Sale, held in Williams Lake, B.C. This year’s sale took place on April 2, offering an impressive lineup of Red and Black Simmental, Angus and Hybrid bulls.

Anja and Ian Mitchell report the sale was a grand success with Lot #19, Mitchells Captain 130J, selling for $10,750. The bull, who was one of the top five highest sellers in the sale, is a Red Polled Percentage Simmental who had a birth weight of 86 pounds on Feb. 8, 2021, then weighed in at 1340 pounds on Feb. 9, 2022.

Ian Mitchell says his family has been committed to raising quality beef since 1933, and calves raised at the ranch are marketed as hormone and antibiotic free.

“We are listening to an increasing population that wants their beef to be grown in a healthy, natural way,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell Cattle Co. beef can be purchased privately, and is also marketed to Barriere AG Foods, Thompson Rivers University and several restaurants.
