The proverbial “cat is now out of the bag”, and the news is extremely exciting.

Barriere and District Chamber of Commerce have advised that a veterinarian is currently making arrangements to open an office in the downtown core of the community.

Chamber office manager, Lianne Hamblin, says the process of bringing a veterinarian to Barriere all started during a conversation she had with area businessman Shane Baykey regarding a large building he owns in the downtown area that was currently empty.

“Shane said we needed a vet in the community, and I jumped right on that,” said Hamblin.

She immediately started an online survey of area residents and also a petition asking for signatures from those who would support a veterinarian practice in the community.

“The results were overwhelmingly in favour, and everything has moved along from there,” said Hamblin.

She tells the building requires renovations to be done before a move in date, but that everything is starting to come together very quickly.

“We’ll keep everyone posted as we know more,” said Hamblin, “For right now this is really exciting and we are all looking forward to being able to have our pets cared for right here in Barriere.”
