The District of Barriere advised on Saturday, Feb. 13, that due to the current undertaking of replacing the town’s main production well with a new well that has been drilled at the Spruce Crescent water plant, they will now be flow testing the new well over the next few weeks. Flow testing is a necessary process required to determine the quality and quantity of the new wells production ability for future use in the overall water system.

During the testing period, which was scheduled to start on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the town will be temporarily using a separate well that is located at the Bradford Park site for their water source. Residents have been notified that during this process they may see their household water become slightly discolored.

“Please note that this effect poses no harm or concern to human health,” states a notice posted by the municipality. Any residents who notice a significant difference in their water color are asked to, “Take a picture of your water and send it to inquiry@barriere.ca with the property address, date, and time. This will assist operations in tracking these anomalies and addressing water quality concerns in a timely fashion.”

It is expected that the process required to bring the newly drilled well online will be taking place over the next few months.

Anyone with questions or concerns regarding this process are encouraged to contact the district’s utility operations staff at their 24 hour emergency contact number of 250-672-2118.
