Semi and logging truck crash closes Highway 5 near Vavenby

A collision involving a semi and a logging truck on Highway 5 near Vavenby on Monday morning has resulted in single lane alternating traffic while an assessment is underway.

A vehicle incident occurred between K.P. Road and Lloyd Road four kilometres south of Vavenby along Highway 5 involving a semi and logging truck at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6.

"Seems they came too close in the fog and clipped each other forcing both trucks off the road. Both drivers appeared to be OK, with one taken to hospital with minor injuries and first responders on scene soon after the collision happened,” said nearby resident Kaare Long whose husband is a first responder and was on scene shortly after the incident.

Drivers were urged to proceed with caution and slow down for workers on the road at the site of the crash. There was single lane alternating traffic for a number of hours following the incident.

Sgt. Grant Simpson, detachment commander for the Clearwater RCMP updated the Clearwater Times at 11:17 a.m. saying, "The investigation into the incident is now complete and a violation ticket has been issued."

Drivers are cautioned to drive to conditions by local RCMP and be mindful of highway crews and watch for emergency signage warning them of an incident or crews ahead.
