Two Barriere residents charged with arson and possession of stolen property

Barriere RCMP advise they have arrested two people in connection with an incident that happened on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, within the community.

“On that day, police were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a stolen vehicle, taken from Alberta,” reported Cpl. Rob Welsman, Barriere RCMP Detachment Commander, “When police arrived on scene the vehicle was on fire and evidence at the scene indicated that it had been intentionally lit.”

Barriere residents Hayden Fowler, 27, and Charlene Ponsford, 24, have each been charged with arson, and possession of the stolen vehicle. both have been served with appearance notices to appear in court on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2021, and Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021 respectively.

Charges laid for

Cpl. Rob Welsman also reported that charges have been laid in the theft of a motor vehicle that occurred in Barriere on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020.

“Berkley Wayne Ross, 54, of Prince George, has been charged in the theft and is currently being held in custody on other police files, including theft of the vehicle,” said Welsman.
