Hundreds of local residents and guests filled Fadear Park on Saturday, June 22 for an afternoon and evening of fun, music, food, and some shiny cars on display.
There was something for everyone with the Kidz Zone that included games, a bouncy castle, and the always refreshing splash pad.
The Show n’ Shine with 29 cars and trucks entered was an eye-catching display of collector cars. First place was a ‘62 Chevy Belair owned and driven by Ralph Ringle, Second place a ‘38 Chevy Coup owned and driven by Caden Nickel and third place a ‘27 Ford Model T owned and driven by Bill Klassen.
There were 30 local vendors set up in Fadear Park along with a dunk tank where even mayor Stamer took a few dunks for the team as a fundraiser for Barriere Secondary School (BSS) rugby. The food was delicious with local food trucks Salt Lick and the Hungry Horse Mobile Cafe, as well as Yogi Berri and Crepes, and a beer garden was definitely a welcome
The popular 50/50 draw was hosted by the North Thompson Communities Foundation with a winner every hour equalling four winners during the block party.
Chair of the District of Barriere recreation committee, Louise Lodge, said, “I am extremely thrilled with the turnout at the Block Party. The Rec Committee put in many hours in organizing the event and you just never know how many people will show. We want to thank the volunteers, community, vendors, food trucks, musicians and Show n’ Shine participants.”
Mayor Barriere, Ward Stamer, added, “The Welcome to Summer Block Party was really a lot of fun, even if I did get dunked it was for a good cause going towards the BSS rugby team.”
Live music was also on stage with the Musicians of Barriere known as ‘The Mob’ starting off the event, followed by The Jam Presents and Last Child out of Kamloops.
The District of Barriere Recreation Committee wants to thank the following sponsors:
Barriere Interior Savings, the Thompson Nicola Regional District, the B.C. Fairs, Festivals and Events Fund, the North Thompson Communities Foundation and The Print Shop in Barriere.
“The Rec Committee is looking forward to next year’s event and we hope the block party will only get bigger and better in the years to come,” said Lodge.
