Barriere Cougars shine, take second at Williams Lake tournament

Barriere team put in an impressive effort during the weekend tournament in Williams Lake

The Barriere Secondary School Cougars Senior Girls basketball team delivered an impressive performance at the Lake City Secondary School Senior Girls Invitational, held Jan. 17 and 18 in Williams Lake.

The team secured second place after a hard-fought final against the Fort St. James Falcons, who emerged victorious with a 59–36 win. Barriere faced Fort St. James and the Ashcroft Rams on Friday, followed by a match against the Lake City Falcons which propelled them to the final showdown.

The championship game saw a tied first half and a determined effort by Barriere in the second half, before Fort St. James pulled ahead to clinch the title.

Two Barriere players, Grace Farrow and Missy Kjellström, earned tournament all-star recognition for their exceptional performances.

Coaches Angie Rainer and Charlie Fortier led the 10-member team with dedication and support throughout the tournament. This strong showing follows Barriere’s recent triumph at the Rams Invitational, hosted by Desert Sands Community School in Ashcroft, where the team claimed first place. The Cougars continue to demonstrate their competitive edge and teamwork, building momentum as the season progresses.
