Barriere Curling Club lifts October spirits

In October, the Barriere Curling Club hosted a number of local events to support community spirit. The society sponsored a Bingo, the October Fest Social, and started Wednesday and Friday night curling. The monthly Bingo was well attended and the blackout winnings were $180 which was the largest pot recently.

The society sponsored a Bingo, the October Fest Social, and started Wednesday and Friday night curling. The monthly Bingo was well attended and the blackout winnings were $180 which was the largest pot recently.

The October Fest Social was held with live country and folk music provided by the local trio of Cathy McNeil, Bryan Lee and Glenn Andrews. The musicians played violin, guitars and flute. This was the musicians second performance in the curling rink lounge. A number of October Fest guests dressed up for the occasion to enhance the event.

The Curling Rink building was used extensively in late September for the Provincial 4H BC Ag Expo event. Each year after the Ag Expo there are significant works for preparing the rink for ice making. This year the ice rink surface was repainted in preparation for the curling season.

Ice preparation went according to the schedule identified for the start of the season, and curling started on Wednesday, Oct. 27 and Friday, Oct. 29. Special thanks to the key ice makers Harry Eberts, Rick Shervey, Dale Moore, Glenn Evans and John Reedy.

The next events at the Curling Rink facility include our monthly bingo scheduled for Dec. 12. Regular league curling occurs on Wednesday and Fridays.

There is an upcoming Skins Bonspiel on Nov. 13, and anyone wanting to participate in the one day spiel is asked please call Brian or Susan Bondar at 250-672-5334.

To participate in any weekly curling, simply show up on any Wednesday at 1 pm or Friday at 7 pm.

Finally, the Recreation Society is pleased to co-host with Charlie Kibble a special musical and dinner event on Saturday Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by the duo of Duelling Keyboards.
