The Barriere Secondary School Senior Boys Basketball Team competed last week at the BC School Sports Boys Basketball Provincial Championships in Langley starting Mar. 9.
BSS coach Travis Repka reported Barriere’s first game beat Meadowridge 68-66, with Spencer Schilling hitting a game clinching three with 3.4 seconds left to play.
They then played three more hard fought games while Barriere residents watched it all on live streaming and cheered their team on.
The Cougars gave it their all, but lost to Glenlyon Norfolk 74- 44, lost to Aberdeen Hall 73-66, and finally lost to KCS 67-61.
Repka reports that overall the team were one to three, but placed 8th, the second highest ranked public school for second consecutive provincials in the 1A tier.
“The boys played fierce competitive basketball no matter what the score was at any point in the game,” said Coach Repka, “They were recognized for their sportsmanship and competitive nature, earning them invites to two private school tournaments at the Coast next season. We would like to thank the community for all the support in helping raise funds to send the boys to provincials.”
