The Barriere Secondary Seniors Boys Cougar Classic was held at the school on Dec. 10 and 11, with eight teams signed up to play for the trophy. Teams included Barriere, Fort St John, King’s Christian, Dessert Sands, Pleasant Valley, Norkam, and Kamloops Christian School.

A late cancellation by the Kamloops Christian team resulted in the Barriere Junior Boys playing to fill the slot.

Barriere Senior Boys played for the top spot in the final game against Norkam. They fought hard for a win but Norcam took the trophy with a score of 79-69.

“It was a tight game to the wire and both teams played extremely well,” reported the school’s Senior Boys Basketball Coach Travis Repka.

Repka said he was impressed with the Barriere Junior Boys, “They stepped up to the plate and gave every team their best shot. The Junior Boys forced their game to overtime with a last second buzzer beater by Cohen Hunt. All the coaches commented on how hard the Junior Boys play.”

“Coaches Kiera Eustache and Mac Corrie have those boys primed to make some noise this year,” added Repka.

The coach also noted the Barriere athletes are sending out a big thank you to everyone who showed their support of the team by purchasing Christmas trees and Cougar paws.

The BSS Senior Girls Cougar Classic will happening in January.
