Well, there weren’t any pots and putts on Tuesday, but there were loads of people, pins and prizes. The Chinook Cove Ladies Golf celebrated with our first-of-the-season fun night. We decided to give Christmas in July a rest and most of us were tired of hearing about Covid Fever. Instead, we celebrated Saturday Night Fever.

Some of us dressed in 70s discotheque style and a few of us managed to mangle the Hustle. Thirty-seven ladies took to the course with another couple along for the ride. We did some wacky putting, some long driving and some regular putting. We landed close to a few things and attempted to hit a drive with the opposite handed club.

A few of us went in the gully.

When the dust settled we gathered on the patio for my favourite dinner of the year, turkey with all the trimmings. The fine folks at Chinook Cove took great care of us and we went home tuckered, tired and full. The format for the evening was a four-person scramble. The team with the lowest score was Ilke Marais, Lisa Galanov, Rose Seymour and Kelly McNabney.

The team coming in with the highest score was one of my favourite foursomes that show up for all our fun nights - Bernice Randrup, Bev Murphy, Lynda Dunlop and Rose Seymour. This team also tied for first place in the word game. It is our policy that a team can only win one prize so the team of Deb Legaree, Doreen Landry, Catherine Turner, Cory Walker and Grace Baker got the prize.

Thanks to Donna Janning and Lois McInnis for preparing the game based on music from the 70s.

Prizes for best costume went to Cheryl Tenzer and Lorie Chambers. If there had been a prize for dancing Debbie, Lois and I would have won it, but then we were the only ones dancing.

Once again the KPs were elusive. Three went unclaimed but the other five were won by Leanna Layton, Cathy Paul, Jeannie Webber, Babes Shanko and Bernice Randrup. There is a funny story involved with Bernice’s win but you will have to ask her about it.

Darlene Nickull managed to hit the farthest using the left-handed driver, while Deb Rainer and Leslee Lucy made the best use of the wacky putter. Janice Advent proved she can still drive far, even if she only used a 9-iron and a 7-iron. Megan Tenzer also did well with a 7-iron.

The long putters were Lorie Chambers, Deb Winiski and Ilke Marais, while the long drivers were Susan Newberry and Lisa Galanov. Darlene Nickull landed closest to the Disco ball while Deb Rainer landed closest to the Hula Hoop and the Disco Records.

We also drew for 15 door prizes, including a weekly prize donated by Chinook Cove Golf and RV.

I intentionally left out the names of our weekly sponsors. This week I want to draw your attention to our Hole-In-One sponsors. They usually only get mentioned in my column one or two times a year.

A big thank you goes out to Barriere Auto Parts, Alpine Meadow Resort and Bob Stirling, a local artist and my favourite person on this earth. For those of you who missed this Fun Night, we have another one coming up on August 25, 2020.

Again, we are limited to 48 golfers (to keep in line with Covid-19 restrictions) so I encourage you to sign up your team quickly. The August Fun Night is also a fund raiser for our local unit of the Cancer Society.

We have all been touched in some way by this dreadful disease so I encourage you to support our lady golfers and make a pledge.

“That’s All Folks.”
