The phrase “Dog Days” conjures up the hottest, most sultry days of summer.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac lists the traditional timing of the Dog Days as the 40 days beginning July 3 and ending Aug. 11, coinciding with the heliacal (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius.
Judging by the current temperatures, I would say that we are deep into the dog days of summer. To be honest, spring and fall are my favourite times of year. I just don’t do to well in the high heat of summer.
Nevertheless, on Tuesday I still headed out to play a round of golf with my good buddies, Debbie and Donna. A total of 25 ladies braved the high temperatures and many were rewarded with prizes of some sort when the evening was through.
Louise Lodge scored 37 to win low gross in Flight 1 (Ainsley Gullage of Sun Life Financial) and Donna Salle won the low net with a 47 (35). In Flight 2 Lorie Chambers took the low gross (Tri Peaks Physio) with a 50 and Jen Coiulthard was close behind with a 52 (37.5) to win low net.
Leslie Stirling won low gross in Flight 3 (Salle Ranch) by retro with a 58 while Anita Hill won low net with a 59 (39.5). Stamer Logging sponsored Flight 4. Donna Hamilton had low gross with a 58 and Deirdre Dudzik had second low gross with a 63.
Pot winners were Janice Advent with a birdie and a chip-in; Louise Lodge with a birdie; Donna Hamilton with a deuce and Brenda Carl with a Chip-In. Least putts were made by Louise Lodge with 11 while Jamie Mosdell used 25 putts to win the Most Putt prize. Long Drives on Hole 1 and 2 went to Janice Advent (Armour Mountain Office), Debbie Rainer (Barriere Motor Inn), Leslie Stirling (Barriere Timber Mart) and Rose Seymour (Little Fort Subway). The Accuracy shot was made by Evelyn Lucas (Munro’s Clothing).
KPs were few and far between with Debbie Rainer (MJB Lawyer) on Hole 4 and Jen Coulthard (Brian and Brenda Carl) on Hole 6. Karen Peterson (HUB International) had a KP in 2 on Hole 7 while Louise Lodge (Thompson Valley Awards) had a KP in 3 on Hole 8. Long Putts were made by Kayla Burian (AG Foods & Cindy Leibel, realtor), Louise Lodge (Rainer Custom Cutting), Terri Jones (Sam’s Pizza), and Anita Hill (Station House Restaurant).
Life was quite comfortable on the patio with a light breeze. Between the good food, great company and lots of laughter I had a pretty good time. Sure hope to see you out soon. The summer is flying by.
