Do sane people golf in hot humid weather?

I think it was around about the time we got to the tee box on Hole 8, Aug. 9, that I began to wonder about my sanity.

Why…I ask you…Why would a reasonable sane person go golfing in such hot humid weather? I can’t recall ever being that hot and tired golfing on a Ladies’ Night before. Now having said that you do have to realize that my memory seems to have undergone some drastic changes in the last few years.

I had a great time golfing. Friend Debbie was away camping with her grandkids and we missed her. I had some family visiting and daughter Teresa and daughter-in-law Angie joined Donna Salle and I for the afternoon/evening. They were good sports and Donna was an excellent patient advisor. We did a lot of laughing which is to my mind the most important part of Ladies’ Night.

Louise Lodge won low gross for Flight 1 (Ainsley Gullage of Sun Life Financial) and Susan Mitchell took the low net. Evelyn Lucas won low gross (51) for Flight 2 (Kelly McNabney of TriPeaks Physio) and Doreen Landry won low net. In Flight 3 (Stamer Logging) Trish Thompson won low gross (53) and Jeannie Webber won low net. Flight 4 (Barb and Carman Smith) first low gross was won by Betty Foote (60) and second low gross was won by Jamie Mosdell (61). Cindy Leibel scored an eagle on Hole 1 to win one of the eagle pots. Evelyn Lucas had a birdie. Tori Harper had a Chip in for Flight 4 and I had one for Flight 3. (I am never sure if I should say “I” or “Leslie Stirling”. I haven’t won often enough to make a decision.)

Long Putts on Hole 1 and 2 won prizes for Liesje Gough (Barriere Timber Mart) and Cindy Leibel (Little Fort Subway). This was a week for driving prizes. Longs drives earned prizes for Anita Hill (Munro’s Clothing), Vicki Harris (Rainer Custom Cutting), Cindy Leibel (AG Foods), Susan Mitchell (Sam’s Pizza), Babes Shanko (Station House Restaurant and Armour Mountain Office), Jeannie Webber (Salle Ranch) and Kate Schilling (Thompson Valley Awards). The two KP prizes went to Cindy Leibel (sponsored by herself) and Deb Legaree (MJB Lawyer). Susan Mitchell (HUB International) and Loretta Gammel (Quality Contractors) made KPs in 2 on Hole 7. Kayla Burian (Barriere Motor Inn) came closest to the 150 yard marker on Hole 9. Cindy Leibel won the least putts by retro with a 14. Angie Stirling (DIL) broke the most putt record for Ladies Night with a 38.

Reminder: August 23 is our annual Cancer Fundraiser. It will be a four lady Texas scramble with a shot gun start at 5 p.m. The cost is $50 per person and includes golf, cart, supper and prizes. The ladies will be out gathering pledges so please watch for your favourite golfer. If you don’t have a favourite golfer to pledge, please consider giving me a shout with your pledge. I will have my pledge sheet with me at the Farmer’s Market on Thursday so feel free to stop by.

Fall is fast approaching and there are not many Tuesdays left. Sure hope to see you at the course.
