This small community of ours is in my books the most wonderful place to live and call home.

On Tuesday, Aug. 17, 51 fantastic ladies (and yes, I counted myself) raised $5,712.50 for the Cancer Society. Our hope is that the funds will be used to assist families with the financial difficulties they encounter when battling cancer. As women, we are especially supportive of those battling breast cancer. No matter how the funds are used we know they will be used well and will be much appreciated by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Although our registration fee and other fund-raising endeavours were a part of the event, the largest share of the funds was raised through pledges. Asking for donations is not the easiest thing to do but I am so thankful for those that asked, and for those that responded. Pledges came from near and far, east and west, north and south.

Of course, the Cancer Society isn’t the only winner. The golf game was a Texas four lady scramble and prizes were won by teams and individuals. Two teams tied for low score with a 37. Those ladies were Ilke Marais, Audrey Rilcoe, Donna Salle, Joanne Livingstone, Catharine Phillips, Janice Advent, Lorie Chambers and Kathy Cook. The team with the high score of 48 was Brenda Carl, Jen Amos, Jemmie Harris and Ashley Wohlgmuth. The winning team of the Let’s Play Quiz with an almost perfect score was made up of Kelly McNabney, Trish Thompson, Louise Lodge and Mel Shepherd. The Mystery Score prize donated by Louise Lodge in memory of her mother, Marion Lodge, went to the team of Deb Winiski, Barb Smith, Darlene Nickull and Susan Newberry.

We were all winners when the delicious Greek dinner was served - Greek Salad, Pita bread, tzatziki, rice pilaf and chicken souvlaki followed by apple crisp. Once again the management and staff of Chinook Cove treated us ladies well.

On behalf of the Chinook Cove Ladies Night I would like to extend our thanks to all for the great community support.

I am choosing not to name names or companies because the prizes came from here, there and everywhere, and I am bound to miss a name. So THANK YOU ALL!

Only four weeks left. See you at the course.
