March will be coming in like a lion for Barriere Curling Club

“Spring is on its way, and the Barriere Curling Club (BCC) is increasing speed for a busy end of season events,” says BCC president Brian Bondar.

“Spring is on its way, and the Barriere Curling Club (BCC) is increasing speed for a busy end of season events,” says BCC president Brian Bondar.

He noted that the club’s Curling Day in Canada event hosted for the community on Feb. 5, “had a disappointing local turn out, but what was lacking in numbers was made up in enthusiasm.”

The free event provided coaching, hot chocolate, snacks and gifts to the participants.

“Big, tall, short or small, all enjoyed the afternoon,” said Bondar.

He tells the club is looking forward to a busy month ahead, “Starting on Saturday, March 5, with a delicious meal and evening of country music featuring Tanner Dawson & Friends thanks to event coordinator Charlie Kibble. The event will be held at the rink lounge. We are fully licensed, and will have COVID protocols in place.”

Bondar tells following the concert evening, there will be a Bingo on Sunday, March 13, with Early Bird games starting at 12:30 p.m.

A one day Skins format Bonspiel is scheduled for Saturday, March 19. Anyone interested in participating or entering a team for this day of fun are asked to contact Brian or Susan Bondar at 250-672-5334.

The club’s windup Fun Spiel is scheduled for Saturday, March 26.

“This will be a day of fun, food and curling to finish the season,” said Bondar, “As well, we are raffling a 55 inch Samsung 4K television, and the tickets are limited and going fast.”

He also notes that once curling is completed for the season the club will be hosting their annual Spring Flea Market in the rink on Saturday, Apr. 30.

“With reduced health restrictions we are expecting our normal full house at the Spring Flea Market,” said Bondar, “Let us know if you are interested in hosting a table or if you have items to donate.”

For tickets to Curling Club events, the raffle, or to reserve a Flea Market table contact Cathy McNeil at 250-672-5502.
