Thirty young Barriere athletes had the opportunity to practice their basketball skills recently, thanks to a grant from the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society.

B-Town Basketball, which received the grant, funded a Basketball Camp which recently took place in the Barriere Curling Rink, running from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3. The camp was facilitated by Coach Scott Clark, Head Coach since 2010 for Thompson Rivers University’s (TRU) WolfPack men’s team. Prior to TRU, Clark spent 15 successful years at the helm of Simon Fraser University’s Clan men’s program.

The B-Town Basketball Camp saw 30 young athletes from Grades 5 through 12 take part. By all reports, the young participants enjoyed the four-day opportunity to work on their basketball skills and learn more about the sport. Tyson Schilling and Cam Kerslake, well-known basketball players from the Barriere area, also lent assistance with the camp.

Coach Clark provided excellent instruction while encouraging camp participants to work hard in class and on the court to improve and gain the skills they need to succeed.

“Thanks to the grant we received from the Lower North Thompson Community Forest we were able to reduce the cost of the camp and pay for the rental use of the curling rink,” B-Town event organizer Jody Schilling said.
