A family from McLure is pretty proud of their twins who have recently graduated from Olds College in Alberta.
Former Barriere Secondary high school 2022 graduates, Becky and Jake Bradley graduated this spring in their respective college courses. Becky obtained a diploma in Land and Water Management and Jake graduated with a Business and Sports Management diploma.
Becky says she plans to find a job in her field of study while continuing to be in amateur rodeo.
“I am staying in B.C. for the summer but plan to move back to Alberta in the fall to pursue my career and to rodeo.”
The sister and brother are avid rodeo competitors. They have both been competing on the Olds College Broncos Rodeo Team.
Their mother, Kristina, recently told the Star/Journal about Becky’s accomplishments.
“Becky recently earned the Canadian College Rodeo Final Breakaway Roping Championship in Brooks, Alberta that took place from May 17 - 19 and the Bull Riding Championship Buckle was presented to Jake as he was the season leader. We are very proud of both of them.”
Becky competes in goat tying as well as breakaway roping and she qualified to the Canadian College Finals in both her events this year. She tied her goat in 8.5 seconds, placing first in the round and then she went out and roped her calf in 3.0 seconds earning her the breakaway round win as well.
Over the next two rounds of breakaway roping she was a 3.3 and 3.0 and ended up being the only competitor to rope all three of her calves. This put her number one in the average and earned her the title of breakaway roping champion.
Becky’s new horse Twelve is “amazing” according to Kristina and their partnership along with her hard work, skill and “long hours of practice” contributed to the championship title.
The new college graduate and roping champion added, “Being able to win this title means a lot to me, one of my goals for this rodeo season was to make the finals in both breakaway roping and goat tying. So making the finals was a big enough win in my books, but being able to actually bring home the championship made this finals so much more special. This was my first rodeo season roping off of my new horse Twelve, I am so proud of how well she worked for me this season and she continued to stay so solid through the finals.”
Her mother, Kristina Bradley saying,”It was a tough pen of girls that she was roping against, all of them very talented and accomplished, but Becky was able to control the mental side of things and follow her game plan of just getting all three calves roped.”
Becky has also been named the Reserve All Around Cowgirl of the Canadian College Rodeo Finals. Obtaining that title means she earned the second highest number of points between all her events over the championship weekend.
